Bridal Alterations

Every bride is different and every Wedding Dress is different. In light of that, most dresses need to be altered for fit or style.

My aim is to provide the fittings and alteration service to make your dress perfect for you, for your big day.

So What alterations can I do?

The alterations that can be done to a wedding dress are the most varied of any garments, in my opinion and are individual to each dress and each bride.

  • restyle, resize or full remodel

  • take in at sides

  • take up shoulders

  • put in a corset back

  • alter the hem

  • Put in a bustle

  • reshape the neckline

  • general repairs

The Fitting Process

How many fittings will I need?

Most Brides will need at least three fittings.

At your first fitting I will chat to you about what you would like to change about your dress and place pins where I need to make alterations. We will also discuss bustle options but these don’t need to be decided on until your second fitting.

At your second fitting I will have made some of the alterations but not finished the seams etc so I can check that everything is going to be perfect before I finish off.

Your final fitting is usually just to check everything is perfect and depending on your dress make the last finishing touches.

HOW FAR AHEAD DO I NEED TO BOOK?

The ideal time for your first fitting is at least 8 weeks from your wedding date, so that your final fitting is at least 4 weeks before the big day.

As a minimum 1 month is recommended. This is to ensure that I have enough time to carry out the alteration

In some cases it is possible to carry out alterations in a shorter time frame, though there may be additional charges for a quick turn around.

Please bring the shoes that you intend to wear on your wedding day, as well as the undergarments you with be wearing, this can make a difference to your silhouette and the way the dress fits.

How Much does it cost?

The cost of Bridal Alterations vary greatly, depending upon the alterations needed, that fabric used, how the dress is made and any decorative elements.

The basic fact is that the more time it takes to carry out the alteration, the more it will cost.

We have worked to develop an Alterations Budgeting Guide, to give you an idea of what you might expect to pay.
